The 91st winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 12th September 1866 over the 1 mile 6 furlongs and 132 yards of Town Moor, was Lord Lyon, a bay colt by Stockwell out of Paradigm, owned by Mr Richard Sutton. A field of 11 runners contested the race, although there were 238 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 5950 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £5,825. (Equivalent to £675,700 in 2017)
